Fostering an Environment for Student Ownership

This class focuses on how to foster an environment where elementary students can be invested in their own musical learning and development. Teachers have the ability to define what kind of environment a student steps into when entering a piano lesson setting, but sometimes this can mean that the lesson is entirely in the teacher's control. When given space within some parameters, however, children are very able to guide their learning in ways that are meaningful to them. Meaningful learning can lead to deeper retention, motivation, and enjoyment, for both the teacher and the student.  A constructive lesson setting enables the teacher and the student to work together as partners to achieve mutual goals.
